Welcome Bianca Scarrow!

We are delighted to announce Reds has a new hair stylist joining us in June. Bianca has been managing a salon group in Sydney as well a training role in their academy. Her wealth of knowledge and experience will compliment our team perfectly as her expertise covers every aspect of hairdressing. Initially Bianca will work Thursday through to Saturday, but as word spreads I'm sure that will increase due to her popularity. She will also be available to help out other days whilst Kelli is on her New Zealand holiday.

Hair Expo

Lee, Heather and Christine along with Jess, Shannon and Rebecca are off to Sydney the Queen's birthday weekend for our big trade fair at Darling Harbor. Lee is comparing the FAME team show and hosting the President's luncheon, whilst the rest of us will be busy taking in the latest information about products and techniques. We are all very excited, especially Rebecca who hasn't been to Sydney before and this will also be her first travel experience on a plane!

FROM THE RUNWAY OF CAIRNS TO THE FASHIONABLE RUNWAYS OF NEW YORK

From the resort life of Cairns to the runways of New York is but a long-haul flight away for this year’s Australian hairdresser of the Year, Lee Cohen, whose expertise with hair has landed him a backstage pass for Sass & Bide’s catwalk show paraded to the world’s fashion elite in New York Fashion Week Spring 2005 next Monday.

Lee will depart Cairns on Friday morning bound for New York where he will spend two days practicing the ‘do’s’ alongside four Australian hairdressers making up the team hand picked by Sass & Bide’s artistic director to ‘do the hair’ for the unveiling of the fashion label’s 2005 Spring collection.

According to Lee, the model’s hair will styled ‘sleek’ or intricately twisted and knotted to reflect the tribal feel of one of the design duo’s main fashion stories.

Born and bred Queenslanders, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton are the names behind Sass & Bide’s instantly recognizable fashion that has been a success story in the U.S. since 2001 – often gracing the windows of Bloomingdales. The design pair describe their label as a ‘love of all things creative with a passion for individuality and freedom of expression’ – result being “don’t look too pretty”.

Lee Cohen will return home following New York fashion week - hopefully with a bag full of the highlights, lowlights and old-fashioned fiasco’s that are part of New York Fashion Week. It will then be a short wait until the announcement of the coming year’s Australian Hairdresser of the Year. Can he hold onto the title? This is a question that will be answered at the award’s ceremony in Sydney on Monday 28 February.

AUSTRALIAN HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR
-Coveted Title For Creative Director-

Issued March 2nd, 2004

It was a night of award ceremonies. Not only did tinseltown go all out for the Oscars – but so did Australia’s hairdressing industry for its annual Australian Hair Fashion Awards.

Congratulations and celebrations are the order of the day for Reds Salon and Spa’s creative director, Lee Cohen, who was awarded last night with two coveted titles at the 2004 Australian Hair Fashion Awards held at Sydney Town Hall. Following a roller-coaster of nail biting anticipation, Lee took home both Queensland and Australian Hairdresser of the Year.

With his collection of images entitled, ‘Miami Breeze’ showcasing his predictions for what is happening with hair at the moment, Lee was one of three finalists for each category announced in December last year.

The 2004 Australian Hair Fashion Awards were judged last October in London at Salon International by a prestigious panel of UK hairdressers including Richard Thompson, Patrick Cameron, Beverly Cobella, George Paterson, Tony Rizzo and Sean Dawson. The judges were invited to view the entries over the course of the day, all independently, and as always, were overwhelmed by the high standard of the Australian work produced.

Winning awards is not new to Lee who made last year’s shortlist in the prestigious Queensland Hairdresser of the Year after winning the coveted title in 2002.

“As Queensland Hairdresser of the Year in 2002 we enjoyed many great spin-offs, including the positive impacts it had on business. If nothing else, these award’s go to show that Cairns’s hairdressing industry is alive and kicking - and just as cutting edge and competitive as it is in the capital cities. To win Queensland Hairdresser of the Year for a second year is great – but taking home Australian Hairdresser of the Year is truly sensational – I just cannot describe how good it feels.”
