FROM
THE RUNWAY OF CAIRNS TO THE FASHIONABLE RUNWAYS OF NEW YORK
From
the resort life of Cairns to the runways of New York is but
a long-haul flight away for this year’s Australian hairdresser
of the Year, Lee Cohen, whose expertise with hair has landed
him a backstage pass for Sass & Bide’s catwalk show
paraded to the world’s fashion elite in New York Fashion
Week Spring 2005 next Monday.
Lee
will depart Cairns on Friday morning bound for New York where
he will spend two days practicing the ‘do’s’
alongside four Australian hairdressers making up the team
hand picked by Sass & Bide’s artistic director to
‘do the hair’ for the unveiling of the fashion
label’s 2005 Spring collection.
According
to Lee, the model’s hair will styled ‘sleek’
or intricately twisted and knotted to reflect the tribal feel
of one of the design duo’s main fashion stories.
Born
and bred Queenslanders, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton
are the names behind Sass & Bide’s instantly recognizable
fashion that has been a success story in the U.S. since 2001
– often gracing the windows of Bloomingdales. The design
pair describe their label as a ‘love of all things creative
with a passion for individuality and freedom of expression’
– result being “don’t look too pretty”.
Lee
Cohen will return home following New York fashion week - hopefully
with a bag full of the highlights, lowlights and old-fashioned
fiasco’s that are part of New York Fashion Week. It
will then be a short wait until the announcement of the coming
year’s Australian Hairdresser of the Year. Can he hold
onto the title? This is a question that will be answered at
the award’s ceremony in Sydney on Monday 28 February. |
